About Team Red Lizard
Team Red Lizard (TRL) is a non-profit running club based in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area.
While TRL is a running club, many of our members prefer a flair for the dramatic and enjoy numerous other activities such as mountain climbing, back-country skiing, adventure races, and Ironman competitions to name a few.
TRL also provides members with opportunities to help others; from working at a local soup kitchen one Saturday each month, to organizing many aspects of the Special Olympics Regional Qualifying meet, and providing runners to lead pace groups for the Portland Marathon, TRL seeks out opportunities to give back to the community.
founded in 1992 by local triathlete Kevin Foreman. Foreman also founded the Finishline Sports Running Club. When Finish Line Sports closed its doors in 1996, the same core group of runners which made up the running club, formed Team Red Lizard and continued on under the tutelage of Foreman as he began putting on numerous races in the area.
In 1997 TRL merged with the Rose City Runners, another Portland area running club, and formed a board of directors to oversee the club’s activities and expenses. At this point Team Red Lizard and Red Lizard Inc became separate entities. TRL being the non-profit running club under the leadership of the board of directors, and Red Lizard Inc., a for-profit organization owned by Foreman.
Foreman formed X Dog Events and Red Lizard Inc ceased to exist leaving Team Red Lizard, the non-profit organization, to carry on the lizard name.
Garland has been a member of TRL since 2015 and runs competitively in the 50+ masters division. To stay motivated, Garland enjoys setting a wide variety of running goals such as placing 1st in his age-group, accomplishing PRs at odd distances, and finishing bucket-list, destination races.
I don’t even recall how long I’ve been a TRL member, but I do know it’s double digits. I love the team camaraderie we have and have built many life long friends on the long runs, Stumptown XC, Labor Day camp outs and social gatherings.
Carre has been running competitively since age eleven and has been a club member for over a decade. She has served as a cross country team captain, helped organize multiple trips to USATF Club Cross Country Nationals, and has recently been helping organize the Sunday long runs.
Ben has been a long-time Lizard, and regular at group runs, Stumptown Cross, trail runs and the Labor Day camp + run adventures.

Torrey has been an active TRL member and board member for longer than he cares to admit. After being a 400/800 meter runner in high school and college, he has enjoyed racing cross country, road and trail races of all distances since then.

Running serves as an important medium for positive work/ life balance in my life. I joined Team Red Lizard this past year and I believe forming the relationships I now have serves as a key driving force to keep me going and striving to be a better runner and a better version of myself!
